M2 CP HUDSON VALLEY INN LOGOS

For this project, The task was to design logos for a new and unique boutique hotel named the Hudson Valley Inn and its upscale restaurant and bar. The main attraction of the hotel is the scenic escape it provides city dwellers , especially during the fall foliage season.

With this in mind, I wanted to give it a modern look mixed with nostalgia. The type chosen for all three logos is Mostra Nuova from Adobe Fonts. I imported the bold version for the hotel and the regular for the restaurant and bar. This gives an Art Deco impression. For the hotel logo I transformed the "S" in Hudson into a vector object, molding it into a symbol of the Hudson River winding down the Valley where it ends in the negative space of the "V" of valley. By creating a black background, Hudson could be white, further enhancing the flow from the S into the V. It also lends itself to an Art Deco look. In addition, I created a logo which has two components that can be used together or separately. The second parts a stylized "H" that is symbolic of the scenery of the Hudson Valley. Divided into four separate triangular pieces, the top two represent the view of the valley if you were on the river, and the bottom two represent their reflection on the water. These four components can also represent the four seasons as this is a year-long destination. Various color combinations can be used according the season or for certain times of the year.

For the upscale restaurant and bar, I used the history of the region as inspiration, using the explorer, Henry Hudson as the focus. The restaurant, The Half Moon, is named after the ship that Hudson sailed on during his exploration of the region, and the bar, 1609, is named for the year Hudson's exploration of the region took place. Again, the Mostra Nuova type was used, here the regular version, a bit more refined in appearance my opinion. Here, the black background is used behind "Half" creating continuity with the main hotel logo. The focus of the logo is the creation of half moons out of the "O"s in moon. There is a second representation as the white/negative space also represent the sails of the ship with a simple graphic underneath symbolizing the body of the ship. the same approach was used with the bar. The "0" was transformed into an olive, like you would find in a martini, with a toothpick through it to create dimensionality. A heavy underline helps emphasize this and gives it a foundation so it doesn't look like the logo is floating.

Finally, the business card of the restaurant is double-sided using the restaurant and hotel logo.

Thank you for viewing. Any comments or critiques are welcome.
